I specialise in making it easy for you to learn and gain your BCU awards – whether it’s a training course or an assessment.

In my training courses I not only give you the skills and tactics you need, you will also learn to think and make decisions like the very best paddlers do.

I understand that the assessment process can be challenging, so I create an environment which allows you to perform at your very best making it easy for you to show us what you can do.

How to Book

Booking is easy. Find the course you’d like from the drop down menu above. Course dates, details and prices are shown by following each link.
Email me and I’ll confirm availability. Download this Booking Form (or this PDF Version). Complete it and send it to me with a deposit for £50. I will confirm your booking and send you details of the course.

Are you, or would you be if you gained a coaching award, a volunteer coach living in the North East Region? If so you could qualify for the NE BCU Region 50% Funding Bursary.

Learning Opportunities

In many courses (eg 4 Star Assessments, Moderate Water Endorsements and Level 1 and 2 trainings and assessments) candidates are assessed coaching or leading real students. If you’d like to volunteer as a ‘real student’ and benefit from free coaching and leading then please let me know.

Not previously canoed I – as a 60year old – am interested in canoeing at, inter alia, the Farnes.
Are real students required for that? If not what courses are available for a 60year old beginner?
I have a holiday cottage near Rothbury but
I actually live very close to Holme Pierrepoint Notts. Perhaps you can recommend a suitable course there for @real students@.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, we do need real students for some courses. Usually, these students have done some canoeing before rather than being complete beginners. If anything appropriate comes up I’ll let you know, and should you wish I can arrange a day of 1:1 coaching with you to get you started.

Morning KIM forgot to mention speaking yesterday, guess where maximum paddlesport growth currntly is ????? Sea sit on tops for wait for it? FISHING People need some skills and some sea safety advice and are contacting the BCU just a thought for this summer? Dave H.

Yes, Ken Hughes and I are delivering this again after last years full course. The dates for the NE BCU Region Level 3 Core are 16th – 20th May. Bookings are now being taken – I’ll send you details.

Im afraid I can’t make these dates due to work but please let me know when the next course is running.Iv wanted to get this course done for over two years now. So i hope this is the start of more to come.
